My name is Cara Benson, Principal at Self-Directed Services Consulting, and I am excited to help you start your journey in self-direction!
I am an industry leader with experience assisting counties, stakeholders, the state of Minnesota, and other states with their self-direction endeavor.
I have over twenty years' experience in the Health and Human Services field working with Home and Community Based services. I am a social services professional with a reputable history of working in government administration designing, operationalizing, and creating policy for self-directed services. Throughout my career I’ve created relationships with people using services, various stakeholders, and industry leaders. These relationships have led me to understand the importance of self-direction at many levels.
Having worked as an FMS provider and as a former self-direction policy lead at the state of Minnesota, I gained expertise in the components of self-direction including best practices, policy, and operational needs for Financial Management Services and Information and Assistance. Additionally, my strengths include writing requests for proposal, training, legislative content and creating program rules for system interaction.
What I really enjoy is working collaboratively with people to meet their self-direction needs. I look forward to working with you to meet your self-direction needs!
